Gustave Eiffel – Celebrating a Century of Visionary Aerodynamics

Thursday, April 24, 2014 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

SiliconFrench and GABA (German American Business Association) present an evening honoring Gustave Eiffel’s creations, his career and his work on aerodynamics research, influencing not only architecture but also modern transportation and meteorology.
Overall, Eiffel’s powerful legacy include a social, economic, and political impact in addition to attracting millions of visitors each year through his better known creations.
We will begin this evening with a presentation on Eiffel’s life, work and legacy by Bernard Metais and Vincent Tarrazi, which will be followed by a presentation about NASA development based on Eiffel research and current use of wind tunnels, by Christina Ngo.
This event is scheduled for April 24, 2014 in the evening (6PM-9PM) at Wilmerhale 950 Page Mill Road, Palo Alto.

About the Speakers
Bernard Metais is an Emeritus Vice President from Bechtel, the largest Engineering & Construction Company in the world. Bernard Metais, has more than 40 years’ experience in Engineering and Construction in Europe, Middle-East and the USA, mainly in Public Work and transportation.
His education is both European (Ecole Centrale de Paris, Doktor-Ingenieur from the Technische Universität of Karlsruhe) and American (lecturer at the University of Minnesota, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Project Management Institute).
Most ecently, he has presented on French industrial masterpieces such as the TGV, Eiffel tower, “Arche de la Defense” and on Diderot and his legacy: the Encyclopédies.
Vincent Tarrazi is a Veteran Test Pilot and flight Safety Officer; he worked in the French Air Force, Paris flight test center but also in private aviation designers as Sagem DS and AiRPX, for which he set the operations in the Bay Area.
Vincent accomplished his engineering degree in aeronautics at the French Air Force Academy (Ecole de l’Air) and a Mission commender certificate from NATO Tactical Leadership Program.
Christina Ngo is a research engineer at NASA Ames Research Center in the Fluid Mechanics Lab. Currently; she works supporting wind tunnel tests. She has worked with multiple companies including SpaceX, Lucile Packard’s Children Hospital at Stanford, and Pratt and Whitney in design, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis. She has been invited as an honorarium speaker for SPAWAR, UCSD, and NASA Ames as well as a guest speaker for several Teachers in Space Conferences.
Mrs Ngo received her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego and focused on Aeronautics. During her spare time, she is an advocate in promoting STEM for students of all levels in the Bay Area.
