Opening April 1, 2011. FRANÇOIS OZON’S POTICHE. Master French filmmaker François Ozon returns with a hilarious, visually stunning love letter to 1970’s style starring Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu. Deneuve plays Suzanne Pujol, a wealthy, neglected housewife who steps in to manage her tyrannical husband’s umbrella factory after the workers go on strike and take him hostage. To everyone’s surprise, Suzanne proves herself a competent and assertive woman of action. But when her husband returns from a restful cruise in top form, things get complicated… Gérard Depardieu plays a former union leader and ex-beau who still holds a flame for Suzanne. Selected for the 2010 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, “Potiche” is a bona fide critical and box office hit in France, where it was nominated for four Césars. “Potiche” opens Friday, April 1st at: the Clay Theatre in San Francisco; the Rafael Film Center in San Rafael (1118 Fourth Street); and Oakland’s Piedmont Theatre (4186 Piedmont Avenue). The film opens Friday, April 8th at Berkeley’s Shattuck Cinemas (2230 Shattuck Avenue) and UA Stonestown Cinema in San Francisco (501 Buckingham Way).
